Sending alerts by text message
When SMS alerts are available on your account, add an SMS notification channel in Settings → Notification channels → + Add channel:
- Kind: SMS text message.
- Name: a label such as "On-call SMS".
- Target: your mobile number in E.164 format, e.g.
+15551234567. - Severity filter: choose which severities should text you — many teams send only critical to SMS and route the rest to chat or email.
What a text looks like
SMS messages are kept short to stay within a single segment, for example: Merlonix CRITICAL: SSL on www.example.com - certificate expires in 2 days. View: <link>.
Good to know
- SMS delivery is subject to a monthly safety cap per account so a runaway alert loop cannot run up costs; if the cap is reached, SMS pauses for the rest of the calendar month while your other channels keep working.
- You can also page on-call responders by SMS through an escalation policy — see "On-Call Schedules and Escalation".
- If you do not see SMS as a channel option, it has not been enabled on your account yet; contact support.
