How to Set Up DNS Monitoring

Enabling DNS monitoring on an asset

1. Go to Assets → select your asset
2. In the edit form, enable DNS monitoring
3. Save

Merlonix queries Cloudflare DoH (1.1.1.1) for your hostname on every check interval and compares against the last known state.

Record normalization

To reduce false positives:

• Trailing dots stripped from CNAME/MX/NS/SOA/SRV targets
• TXT record quotes stripped
• Records sorted deterministically

Tip: tighter intervals for critical DNS

For NS and CAA records, use a 15-minute interval. DNS changes propagate in minutes and early detection limits blast radius.
