Built for PrestaShop agencies — 14-day free trial

PrestaShop MultiShop runs multiple client stores from one install.
Each store domain has independent SSL — and none share renewal schedules.

PrestaShop agencies on OVHcloud and shared hosting manage SSL through cPanel or Plesk Let's Encrypt, which fails silently when a client changes registrar or DNS provider. PrestaShop MultiShop runs multiple stores on different domains from a single install — each domain has its own certificate. Third-party PrestaShop modules for payment, shipping, and analytics connect to external API subdomains with separate expiry schedules. Merlonix monitors SSL and DNS so you see expiry before clients do.

Where PrestaShop agencies get caught out

Three failure modes specific to PrestaShop client deployments on shared hosting and VPS.

PrestaShop agencies managing cPanel-hosted stores deal with AutoSSL silent renewal failures after client DNS changes, MultiShop domain SSL that expires independently across each store, and third-party module API subdomains that carry separate certificate schedules outside the agency's standard monitoring.

cPanel Let's Encrypt auto-SSL fails silently when a client changes DNS registrar or provider

Shared hosting platforms provision Let's Encrypt certificates using cPanel's AutoSSL, which validates domain ownership via DNS or HTTP. When a client migrates DNS to a new provider during a registrar transfer or IT consolidation, the DNS records in the new zone may not match what cPanel expects — and the next renewal fails without notifying the agency

cPanel AutoSSL renews Let's Encrypt certificates on a 90-day cycle. The renewal process validates domain ownership by checking DNS records or serving a challenge file via HTTP. When a client changes their DNS registrar or provider — which is common during website migrations, IT infrastructure changes, or agency onboarding when the client consolidates registrars — the new DNS zone may be missing the validation record or have propagation delays that cause the HTTP challenge to fail. cPanel AutoSSL marks the domain as failed after the validation fails and queues it for retry — but does not send an alert to the agency. The existing certificate continues to serve until its 90-day expiry. The agency discovers the failure when the certificate expires and the PrestaShop store begins returning SSL errors, or when a client reports that the browser is showing a certificate warning during checkout. For PrestaShop stores handling payment flows, an SSL error during checkout causes immediate cart abandonment and potential payment processor contract issues.

PrestaShop MultiShop runs multiple client stores from one install — each store domain has independent SSL

PrestaShop's MultiShop feature allows agencies to run several client stores from a single PrestaShop installation, each store mapped to a different domain. The agency manages SSL for each store domain separately — through cPanel, a VPS certificate tool, or a CDN — and the certificates expire on different schedules

PrestaShop MultiShop is widely used by agencies building brand families or regional store variants for clients: brand-a.com, brand-a.fr, and brand-a.de might all run from one PrestaShop install, each mapped to a separate store configuration. Each domain requires its own SSL certificate provisioned through whatever mechanism manages that domain — cPanel AutoSSL for shared hosting, Certbot for VPS, or CDN-provisioned SSL for stores behind Cloudflare or a CDN. The certificates for brand-a.com, brand-a.fr, and brand-a.de expire independently. An agency managing ten MultiShop clients — each with three to five store domains — is tracking 30 to 50 independent certificate expiry schedules in addition to any API subdomains. The most common failure pattern is a regional store domain certificate expiring because it receives less traffic monitoring attention than the primary store, and its SSL error is reported by clients in a secondary market before the agency identifies it.

Third-party PrestaShop modules connect to payment, shipping, and analytics API subdomains with independent SSL

PrestaShop stores depend on modules for payment processing, carrier API integration, and analytics. These modules connect to external API subdomains — payment gateway endpoints, shipping carrier API endpoints, tax calculation services — each running on a separate domain or subdomain with SSL independent from the PrestaShop store itself

A PrestaShop store built with custom modules may connect to api.paymentprovider.com for payment processing, api.carrierprovider.com for real-time shipping rates, and analytics.agencyplatform.com for conversion tracking. Some agencies self-host or proxy these integrations through their own subdomains: payments.clientstore.com, shipping.clientstore.com, tracking.clientstore.com. When any of these API subdomains — especially self-hosted or agency-managed ones — has an SSL certificate that expires, the module stops working. Payment processing failures are the highest-severity outcome: the store continues to appear functional, but checkout fails at the payment confirmation step. Customers reach the final checkout step, their payment is rejected with a network error, and they abandon the cart without knowing an SSL failure is the cause. The agency receives escalation from the client about "the payment module not working" — not an SSL alert.

How it works

SSL and DNS monitoring for PrestaShop stores on shared hosting, OVHcloud, and VPS.

Merlonix monitors CNAME integrity and SSL health across every PrestaShop store domain — including MultiShop regional stores and third-party module API subdomains — and catches cPanel AutoSSL renewal failures before the 90-day certificate expires.

01

Add store domains, MultiShop regional domains, and payment/shipping API subdomains

Verify ownership with a DNS TXT record on the apex domain. All subdomains — including MultiShop regional store domains, cPanel-hosted subdomains, and agency-managed API proxy subdomains — are added without additional verification. Monitoring all store domains catches cPanel AutoSSL renewal failures and MultiShop regional certificate expiry before clients in secondary markets report SSL errors. Under two minutes per client.

02

CNAME integrity checks on cPanel, OVHcloud, and CDN-hosted store domains

Three independent DNS resolvers check every CNAME delegation on every monitoring interval. When a client changes DNS registrar and the new DNS zone is missing a CNAME that cPanel AutoSSL depends on for renewal validation, the mismatch is detected immediately — before the 90-day certificate expires. When a PrestaShop store is migrated from shared hosting to a VPS and a DNS CNAME is not updated correctly, the break surfaces in the next monitoring interval rather than when the old certificate expires.

03

SSL monitoring 30 days before expiry across all store domains and module API subdomains

Full SSL chain validation on every PrestaShop store domain, MultiShop regional domain, and agency-managed API proxy subdomain. An expiry alert fires 30 days before the certificate expires — enough lead time to renew a cPanel AutoSSL certificate manually, verify that a VPS Certbot cron is functioning, or re-provision a CDN SSL certificate for a store domain. Payment API subdomains and checkout endpoints are monitored on the same schedule as the store domain.

04

Vendor status for OVHcloud, SiteGround, and common PrestaShop hosting platforms

Merlonix monitors OVHcloud, SiteGround, and common shared hosting platform status alongside client SSL and DNS. When an OVHcloud infrastructure incident causes cPanel AutoSSL validation failures across multiple hosted store domains simultaneously, you see the vendor event — not a cascade of individual client alerts that each require separate investigation to determine whether the cause is client-specific or a platform-wide issue affecting all PrestaShop stores on that host.

What the numbers mean for PrestaShop agencies

Monitoring built for PrestaShop agencies where one client means multiple store domains, each with independent SSL.

PrestaShop agencies managing MultiShop installations need SSL monitoring that covers every store domain — because a regional store certificate expiring during checkout affects revenue before the primary store is touched, and cPanel AutoSSL failures after client DNS changes are silent until the 90-day certificate runs out.

< 10 min

Time from DNS change to alert — catches cPanel AutoSSL renewal failures caused by client DNS migrations before the 90-day certificate expires and the PrestaShop store returns SSL errors during checkout

30 days

SSL expiry warning lead time — enough time to manually renew a cPanel certificate, verify Certbot cron on a VPS, or re-provision CDN SSL for a MultiShop store domain before clients see checkout errors

11 vendors

Upstream services monitored — OVHcloud and SiteGround included to distinguish platform incidents from client DNS changes affecting individual PrestaShop store SSL renewals
